Day 6!

Hello SJA Parents,

It has been a pleasure teaching all of your wonderful and hard-working children.
I hope to see many of you on Thursday, December 6!

Math:
We learned about the formula of finding the area of a triangle in order to be able to calculate the area of an irregular polygon.

Area of triangle = length x width
                          2

In order for students to find the area of half a square or rectangle, first, they will need to remember that half a square or rectangle is a triangle. Therefore the formula requires for the students to measure the lengths of the sides and divide it by 2.

UOI:
We investigated on the religion of Christianity. We learned about who Jesus of Nazareth was, and where he was born in. We looked at the Old and New Testaments, the ten commandments that were handed over to the prophet Moses, and the firm belief of Christians in salvation. We will continue to learn about the festivals that Christians celebrate throughout the year.

Afterwards, a couple of the students shared a religious artifact that they have brought from home:

Day 3!

Hello SJA Parents,

What's the scoop in Room 14? Let's check it out!

Math:
We took up the work today from the previous day. We were able to review the concepts of circumference, area and perimeter. We then moved on to a new lesson on using grids to calculate perimeter and circumference. The students used geoboards in order to calculate the perimeter and area of irregular figures.

UOI:
The students created their own title page for the new Unit of Inquiry on World Religion. Students presented religious artifacts from home and shared the meanings behind them and their own family's beliefs.

Day 4!

Hello SJA Parents,

What's the scoop in Room 14? Let's check it out!

Math:
Today we continued to learn about circumference, perimeter and area. The students engaged in a pair group activity where they had to visit three stations. Each station required for them to find the perimeter, the area and the circumference between various objects. They used a ruler to measure, a chart for their calculations and the formula for each measurement. The students referred to the anchor charts posted in the class as reference for their activity.

See photos below:

Language:
We used the class time to mark their summaries from the night before on King Tut. The students were able to get a better understanding of the proper use of "Their, There, and They're" as we reviewed it together as a class. Some students volunteered to informally read their summary to the class and we, the audience were able to give the presenters some feedback on how they can improve their summary.

Agenda:
1. Complete worksheet on circumference, perimeter and area
2. Bring a religious item from home to share with the class
3. Casual day tomorrow
4. Word List 12 Spelling due tomorrow.

Hello SJA Parents,

Quote of the day:

Math:
We took up the homework from last week on Circumference.
We started investigating and learning about Perimeter and Area. We will continue to discuss and learn about circumference, perimeter and area tomorrow.

Formula to find Perimeter (P) = length + width + length + width
Formula to find Area (A)= length x width

Please see anchor chart below:
UOI:
We discussed about our Science Centre trip. We discussed about their learning from the trip and any other wonderings or new insights on the Light and Sound program that we attended. We also spent some time watching a video on rainstorms. The students then created their own rainstorms using their own bodies.
